In the 1980's I started working as a wildlife cinematographer, filming wildlife and natural history documentaries for television production houses. This in part came about because of my knowledge of natural history and part because of my 'eye for a shot' which allowed me to work professionally in this industry for many years. These days I am more interested in recording natural history images in a single frame, having had many photographs published in magazines and publications worldwide.
Also I am the Founder of the Nature Photography community group Queensland Nature Photographers, a community based group which gathers like minded individuals for discussions and locally based outings.
I have lived and worked in many countries of the world and travelled extensively, this has allowed me to see many different styles of Nature Photography and ways to tackle many of the problems others have faced in the past.
My clients include a range of people and organisations who all share an interest in natural history and the photographic process.
I provide tuition to many levels of experience, my clientele range from beginners to professional photographers wanting to undertake nature photography.
My images are licensed to many different publication houses and organisations in Australia and overseas for use in a variety of media from magazines, books, audio visual productions and website designs.
Awards
I have numerous images published worldwide and have a number of professional credits on natural history documentaries, with Channel 4 (UK),National Geographic, Central Television (UK), BBC (UK), Partridge Films (UK), Discovery Channel, New Zealand Broadcasting Corp, Australian Broadcasting Corp.

Jon H I recently have had one on one tuition with James covering Lightroom 4 and how to use this software program to get the most out of my pictures.
James was a very patient teacher and I came away from the event with a higher level of knowledge to enable myself to start working on my pictures.
I highly recommended James to anyone who is interested in advancing their knowledge in photography whether it is of a practical or theoretical nature.

Mark B James is one of those sorts of photographers that quietly go about doing what he obviously loves, nature photography.
He is unpretentious, very knowledgeable about his photography and nature.
I have spent time with him on several field trips and a couple of tuition sessions and have thoroughly enjoyed my time with him.
He may not be as high profiled as some photographers but I believe he is just as worthy as other well known practitioners of nature photography.
James also will support you after any event if you need help, something I found very refreshing.
I would highly recommend James to anyone that wants to learn about nature photography in an ethical and sustainable manner.
