I?ve always been fascinated by the inter relationship between man and nature in a design sense.
Originally, photography was just a hobby for me; in fact I started my career in architectural drafting, learning the fundamentals of geometry, balance and an eye for detail. I was introduced to the strict laws and principles of design, but right from the very beginning, I?ve approached form and perspective in an uncouth and abstract way. About five years ago I came across some unfortunate circumstances, which gave me the push I needed to explore the world beyond Australia. I went to Europe to learn more about architecture where the rich visual landscape encouraged me to take my love of photography more seriously. I moved through Europe then on to America and Japan, gaining appreciation for different cultures and how those cultures were reflected in the architecture that I photographed.
Probably the most intense photography I have ever undertaken was for a local paper back magazine, in Edinburgh, covering the protest in the city?s streets against the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, that took place in early 2009. The ?stand out? cities for me were New York, Berlin and Istanbul. These cities have a great vibe; a strong identity and they?re in love with art and design. In these places I was able to create more...see things more clearly. Yes, the form and flavour of my photography owes a lot to these places. I realise now that across my travels I was subconsciously learning a cohesive approach to simply taking a photo of a person...It?s so important to have a sense a humour during this interaction, not to take your self too seriously, bring a natural element to the picture.
In my Photographic history I have passionately given back to the community by documenting for The Port Adelaide River Watch and a committee member of the Port Adelaide Camera Club. Throughout the years I have learnt via other inspirational Adelaide heroes such as Jan Dalman & Tim Newbery. View More...
