Richard Nebesky is a professional photographer based in Ripponlea, Victoria
Passion for the Art and vision to capture the unusual is the moto for Richard at NEBESKYiMAGES who has a lifetime experience in travel photography, much of it at Lonely Planet Publications. This led to specialize in many aspects including architecture/real estate, sport, events, food, portraits, wildlife and landscape photography. He also submits images to Getty Images and Robert Harding Picture Library.
Photography has been part of my life since childhood, using a manual camera and developing black & white photography. The art is in my genes as both of my grandfathers and my father are photographers and movie makers.
Mostly, I work as a travel photographer, having had my images published in many publications around the globe. Much of my work has been photo commission shoots of cities/countries for various travel guide book publishers. This requires a skill covering all aspects of travel from architecture, interiors and exteriors of museums, galleries, hotels and restaurants; landscapes, festivals, concerts, people, sports, fashion, food, transportation, wildlife, music to leisure activities. I have also done my fair share of real estate, portrait, corporate and wedding photography.
My images have been published in Lonely Planet Publications travel guide books since 1988, when I started photographing and authoring their titles. Over the years, some of the titles I photographed are Prague, Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Dubrovnik and Madrid City guides. For 12 years I was also the Lonely Planets social photographer. The work with the travel guide book publishers took me to many countries in South-East Asia and Europe. Since, I started spending much time in Europe and getting gigs with many other travel guide book publishers and companies such as Frommers, Berlitz, Insight & Touring Club Italiano publishers, Koktejl Geographical magazine and the cycling/environmental non-profit Czech Greenways/Nadace partnerstvi. I worked on two publications for them, "The Guide to The Wine Cellar Lanes of South Moravia" (The Czech Greenways 2008) and "The Cycling and Walking Guide to The South Moravian Wine Region" (Bezdroza Publishers 2003), as well as photographing many of their wine festivals, folk festivals and Eurovelo cycling events.
Photographing for Lonely Planet also led to sport photography. I spent several years at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis and Czech Ice Hockey league games. I still photograph horse races, ice hockey matches, cycling events and other sport events. Food photography is another necessary skill in this business. Seeking the unusual has always been the aim of my art, as can be viewed in my Self-portraits and the Reflections series
The above experience and skills have taken me to establish the photography school, The Photo Walking Tours of Melbourne.
