About
I started working in the photography industry in the late 1970s and while portraiture and wedding photography have been the mainstay of my professional career, over the years I have gathered experience in all types of photography.

I spent most of my early career in the Illawarra/Shoalhaven area, and operated a wedding, portrait and commercial photography business from home before I opened a studio and minilab in Kiama in the 1980s. To add a bit of variety and challenge, I started to branch out into school photography, Santa photos and baby competitions.

After relocating to the NSW Blue Mountains, I continued with portraiture, weddings, commercial and event photography, and also taught photography and art privately and through the NSW TAFE system. Doing so many different things really honed my skills in all types of photography, but after a few thousand weddings I decided to take a break from professional photography to explore other opportunities.

I have now returned to professional photography with my new business, Acumen Photography and Portraiture. Taking a break from the industry has really given me a fresh outlook and renewed passion. I have now expanded my range to include art photography, and I create landscapes and nature photographs that are perfect for interior decorating and make great gifts. Although I am now based in Canberra, I love to travel and over the years I have photographed weddings in Sydney, Coffs Harbour, the Hunter Valley, the NSW South Coast and Western Australia.

As part of making the change from film to digital cameras, I have found myself becoming more creative in my style and I'm not content any more to follow convention and produce the technically correct but rather dull style of photography that was so popular early in my career. When it comes to weddings and portraiture, my goal is to produce photographs that are as different and unique as the people I am photographing, combining my new creativity with the skills and technical knowledge I have developed over the course of my photography career.
