Hi, my name is Carmel Vaughan and I'm a Brisbane (QLD) based photographer specialising in Weddings, Events and Portraiture (both in studio and on location). I am a joint Director of Blue Phoenix Photography along with my husband Justin.
My love of photography started many years ago, when film was the only medium available. Creating pin-hole cameras, processing in a dark room whilst in high school, and buying my first SLR camera were definite highlights early on. Now having moved into the digital age, the love of my art continues to grow daily.
My goal is to tell your story, from start to finish, in the most compelling way possible. I treat every event with individuality, and the care and trust that it deserves. I believe there is nothing more important than giving you and your family beautiful images that will provide lasting memories and years of enjoyment.
I have an extensive practical knowledge of photography dating back to when I was about 16 years old. I have also attended many courses and undertaken a diverse range of photo shoots.
Previously, I spent many years in the public service, then the opportunity came up to pursue photography as a full time profession, so here I am running my own business and having fun doing it. View More...Clients

We were really happy with the quality of Blue Phoenix Photography and enjoyed working with Carmel. Carmel was very friendly and made our daughter feel at ease straight away - after having a few photo's with other photographers that didn’t turn out so well (due to their people skills) this was important to us as Carmel was able to make our daughter smile and enjoy having photos taken - we also felt comfortable and enjoyed the session. We will be using Carmel again for our trash the dress (when I can fit back into it!) and any other family event or portrait sessions we need. Finding someone who we & our daughter 'gelled' with straight away made all the difference and then to top it off with amazing quality - our white walls now have amazing pieces of family portraits and some cool "arty" style photos! Everything was easy from our initial booking to our session on the day – nothing we requested was too much to ask.
