While it may be true that photography has been around since the early 19th century, it wasn’t until the early 20th century that a specific type of photography known as ‘fashion photography’ really began to take off. This is when the work of these specialized photographers began to show up in French magazines. It shouldn’t surprise you that the first fashion photos were taken in the birthplace of fashion – Paris, France.
Fashion photographers like Australia’s own Jane Mcleish Kelsey can tell you all about the glamour of working in this particular genre. In speaking to fashion photographers who’ve been in the industry for quite some time, you’ll also find out that the work of a fashion photographer is not always filled with fun and excitement. The work is often more challenging than what it would appear on the outside.
Keep in mind that while the ultimate goal of a fashion photographer is to take photos of clothing and accessories, the job is also much more complex than this.
