Phil Williams is a photographer based in Perth, Western Australia. Having been appointed to a major media outlet in Alice Springs in September 2013, he returned to Adelaide in 2016 and in mid 2020 he relocated to the WA capital. Until relocating to Perth he was still active in the print media, working as the sports photographer for the Gawler Bunyip.
He was awarded the 2018 South Australian Country Press Association Best Sports Photo and was runner up for the award in 2019.
His role in Alice Springs saw him cover a multitude of subjects from general news and sporting fixtures to social and cultural events.
He was one of only two NewsCorp photographers to cover the Royal Visit to Ayers Rock in 2014.
Since photographing his first motorsport event in the mid 1980's, Phil has been accredited for events such as the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in both Adelaide and Melbourne, many V8 Supercar rounds including multiple Bathurst 1000's and Clipsal 500's plus numerous other International, National and State Championship level events.
His images were regularly published in Motorsport News magazine until its closure.
Photos are also supplied to several sports and car clubs for use in their regular magazines, newsletters and websites as well as many other publications and magazines.
In addition to motorsport, Phil has photographed numerous other sporting events and cultural festivals over the last 25 plus years including AFL Football, International Cricket, The Tour Down Under cycle race, Adelaide International Horse Trials plus the prestigious Bay Sheffield Athletics Carnival, Adelaide International Kite Festival, Adelaide Rugby Sevens, ANZ Championship Netball Series and the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race.
He has had images from news and sports events published in many of Australia's daily and regional newspapers including the Adelaide Advertiser, Melbourne's Herald Sun, The Courier Mail in Brisbane and Sydney's Daily Telegraph.
