About this Photographer
Jon Reid is a photographer with over twenty years of experience, mostly in the editorial field. From 2002 until 2012 he was a staff photographer at The Sydney Morning Herald. During this time he covered news, and major assignments included droughts & bushfires in Australia, general elections in Papua New Guinea (2007), and the tsunami that struck Samoa in 2009.
Also, in 2009, Jon travelled to Nepal with the Fred Hollows Foundation to document their ongoing work to eradicate preventable blindness.
Other media organisation and mastheads that Jon has worked for include The Australian Financial Review, The Sun Herald, The Age, The Australian, and The Associated Press.
Commercial clients that Jon has worked for include Ernst Young, Coca-Cola Amatil, Westpac, and the University of New South Wales.
Photographs from Jon's personal documentary projects are held by The National Library of Australia, The State Library of New South Wales and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
In 2011, Jon self-published Predominantly Orange, a book of photographs from his documentation of the ubiquitous safety-cone. An exhibition accompanying the launch was held at the Wedge Gallery, Sydney.
Jon is currently working on another long-term documentary project, Apocalypse Now: In response to anxiety. This project is being printed in platinum, an antique printing method, from original 5x7 inch camera negatives. View More...
