Barry Schipplock is a professional photographer based in Fortitude Valley, Queensland
I was about 10 when I was first seen holding my mother's camera in one hand and my mate's guitar in the other. My fascination with capturing the music industry had begun. While my mates were busy watching James Bond flicks I was more content watching the photographic cult movie "Blow Up" over and over.
Each year I photograph over 500 performances plus many studio shots for press and album cover graphics. The studio features five separate spaces from traditional backdrops to grunge and graffiti spaces. I have advised the local fire brigade that I own a smoke machine!
I currently shoot for three on-line magazines and one traditional magazine with readership of the webzines a combined 6 million page views per month. The webzines place me fairly and squarely in the photo-journalist arena. I'm sent out to shoot a constantly moving target, in poor and challenging light, with tight deadlines and an 8-word brief that simply reads "just make me feel like I was there".
